Whiling Away in Wales

Friends of ours, Chris and Cathy, visited for a week. Chris is looking into taking a sabbatical in Cardiff, Wales and wanted to check it out. Houston was our driver (thanks!) and we whisked off for Wales, a 4-hour drive. We took an afternoon to see castles and countryside.

Castle hunters.

We were sort of on a castle hunt, not hard at all in the surrounding area of Cardiff, Wales. This one was smack dab in the middle of town, with stores all around it. Looks like it's in the middle of the lush green countryside, doesn't it?

This one was in the countryside, high on a hill with great views of the valley below.

Cathy and Houston took the tour of Cardiff Castle. Whimsical downspouts were plentiful.

This creature was spotted in the woods outside the castle walls.

A tapestry recently completed by the women of the church, depicting 1000 years of Abergavenny history. A total of 50 women worked 20,000 total hours, taking 4 years to complete. They used over 400 colors of crewel yarn, hand mixing 2, 5, or 7 threads of various colors, like a painter mixes paint.
